Three Ways to Open Your Heart to Jesus in the Eucharist

Third, Enter into Jesus’ Real Presence at Mass and Adoration!

St. John Vianney told the story of the farmer who regularly visited Jesus in the tabernacle. When asked what he did, the farmer said, “I look at the good Lord, and the good Lord looks at me.” In other words, he knew Jesus’ presence as the highest reality, deep within his soul. He knew that Jesus died for him and waited for his love in return.

The farmer also knew how to open his heart and soul to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. He left his work at the chapel door and entered to place himself before Jesus’ presence. Where is in our heart when we come before Jesus in the Eucharist? “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matt 6:21).

When we go to Mass, do we enter into the Holy Trinity’s presence? Or, do we just go to Mass? At the consecration, know that Jesus is truly, substantially present…in His totality. Then, place your sufferings and prayers alongside Jesus’ sacrifice on the paten. Take your time when you come to receive Him in Communion. Your Redeemer is entering your soul. In turn, enter into His divine life. Then, be secure in knowing that He is with you when you leave the church.
